Six Degrees or Less

Six Degrees or Less

I recently got a holiday letter from a good friend.  As she told of her family’s adventure over the past year she made a comment to the effect of “If that theory about the six degrees of separation holds true, you could really be connected . . .”

So that got me thinking.  To whom am I connected by six people or fewer?  Honestly, I have no idea if you go six people out, but if I just go out a few I can come up with a bit of a list.  So how about I share?  Now, remember, I don’t know any of these people personally.  You can take me hostage, hold me for ransom, and nobody is going to pay up, release prisoners, war, divulge state secrets, or agree to star in a really bad movie.  These are just people I know I’m connected to with only a few people between me and them.  It’s fun to think about, so read my list then do your own!  Oh, and yes, a couple of my people are dead, I’m fully aware.

  • Jack Palance
  • Robert Redford
  • John Denver
  • Gordon B. Hinckley
  • Steve Young
  • Jim McMahon
  • The guy who owns Knight Trucking
  • George W. Bush
  • Jim Davis
  • Earl Charles Spencer
  • Mitt Romney
  • John  Legend
  • Jane Seymour
  • Stephen Covey
  • William J. Bennett
  • The Olympic torch (if you can count inanimate objects)

Well, there is my somewhat off-the-top-of-my-head list.  My apologies if I misspelled any names.  Since there is only one person between me and Robert Redford I suppose I could connect to Kevin Bacon pretty quickly, even though I’m not an actress.

And George, if you’re out there, you should only be six degrees away.  Tewt the Newt says, if you know somebody named George, tell them to read this blog!  Please.
