Yep. We’re still waiting. This time I’m not talking about adoption, though. Wait, don’t get excited. I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah, we’re still waiting for a referral. But now, now, we’re also waiting for the Official Job Offer that was supposed to come in late today or early tomorrow.
Like we haven’t been doing enough waiting around here lately?
Anyway, I’m pretty much cool as a cucumber about the job thing. I mean, like I said, how bad could it be?
McH, on the other hand, hardly slept last night. He probably won’t sleep much tonight, either. Why? I don’t know. I mean, how bad could it be? I think he’s just excited. He keeps researching cars online. BMW? Mercedes? Saab? Acura? Jag?
Of course, here is my frumpy housewife perspective: why can’t we just keep the car we have? Sure it’s a Cavalier (stop laughing), but think how quickly we’ll pay it off now? Then we can just put the money we were putting on it every month in the bank, along with a bunch of other new money (hopefully) and then we can just pay cash for a fancy car in a few years. He says he agrees with me but, you know, just in case the offer includes a monthly car stipend, just in case he has to impress clients, just in case.
My younger brother says McH shouldn’t accept the offer unless they give him a car allowance and a bunch of other frills. Have I mentioned this is not a Fortune 500 company or anything? We’re expecting better, but not fantabulously wealthy better. Of course, my younger brother is also disappointed that he isn’t going to be the first person in the family with an executive job, so maybe he’s just trying to knock McH out of the race nobody knew we were in.
Did I mention he’s my younger brother? Did I mention he’s 13 years younger? Did I mention he’s still in college? Did I mention that when his ego and logic duke it out his ego usually wins?
So, we wait.
I have other things to worry about, like the zillion books I’m supposed to have read by next week: two of my own book clubs, my daughters’ book club, and the books I’d just like to read because I want to. O.K., I don’t have to read the ones I want to read by next week, but still. I have a stack of books as tall as I am that I need/want to read by the end of the summer. Where will I find the time?
I know, I know, I could be reading instead of blogging right this minute.
I tried. Believe you me, I tried. However, my book and my cozy side of the bed were taken. As was the t.v. remote.
And George, if you’re out there, Tewt the Newt says hello.
*Blue Barb is reading Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. Just in case you were wondering. Plus, 15 points to Jenn for being the first to identify my mystery flowers.
